 영국 스피커의 위대한 계보가 잦아들고 있다. 새로운 브랜드 소식이 드물고, 그렇다고 기존 강호들의 신제품 발매가 예전만큼 활발해 보이지도 않는다. 섣불리 스테디셀링 브랜드들과 경쟁을 하거나, 중국산이 점령한 저가 시장에 진입하는 일이 엄두가 나지 않아서 그렇다고 알고 있다.
그 결과는 마치 경제 불안이 가져온 출산율 감소처럼 신제품 품귀 현상으로 이어지고 있다. 가끔씩이라도 기지가 번득이는 신예가 출현해주지 않으면 영국 스피커 시장은 고령화를 면치 못할 것으로 보인다. 러셀 K는 딱 이런 무렵에 그리 영국 스피커가 그리 비관적이지 않다는 진보 정신을 선사하는 브랜드로 등장했다.
러 셀 카우프만은 스피커 전문 설계자로 최소 50년 이상의 경력을 보유한 중견 디자이너이다. 유태계 영국인인 그의 이름이 낯설다면 그가 관여한 여러 회사의 플래그십 제품들을 잠시 살펴보는 것만으로도 분위기는 반전된다.
 B&W의 노틸러스 제작에서 기술 디렉터 역할을, 모렐의 팻 레이디는 전체 설계를, 와피데일의 에어데일과 주요 제품들, 모니터 오디오의 전성기 시절 제품들도 모두 그의 손을 거쳤다. 그래서 그는 하이파이 스피커 제조업계에서는 꽤나 유명한 인물이다. 최근에 그는 자신의 이름을 딴 회사 러셀 K가 출범했다. 러셀 카우프만의 경력으로 보자면 러셀 K는 벌써 오래 전에 생겼어야 할 브랜드였다.
